Ava Iyer for Student Body President

My name is Ava Iyer, and I am running for Student Body President.

I created this website to show my dedication to this role and give you a chance to learn more about my accomplishments and my goals. I want you to know who I am, what I care about, and who you might be voting for.

My Accomplishments

♟️ Berkeley Chess School Volunteer Coach
I am a volunteer coach at the Berkeley Chess School, where I teach the Sunday Queen’s Class from 1–3 PM.

♟️ Private Chess Teacher
I also earn money by teaching private chess lessons in my neighborhood. What started as a small job has grown into a meaningful commitment, and I now teach several students.

🤝 Community Service
I have dedicated over 90 hours to community service as an international camp counselor. I believe that being part of a community means giving back to it.

🤺 Fencing
I have become a successful national fencer in under two years, progressing significantly very quickly.

My Goals

📚 Reduce Homework
I have seen many students and friends become overwhelmed by homework, and I believe we should look for ways to reduce unnecessary workload. I am already working on a plan to collect student feedback and data and bring possible solutions to our school.

⏰ More Study Hall & Free Time
I would like to create more opportunities for students to have study hall or free time—to catch up on work, get organized, or simply take a break during the school day.

💰 Fundraisers Chosen by Students
I believe fundraisers should be based on what students actually want to participate in. I would like to give students a say in which fundraisers we hold.

🏓 Put Fundraising Money Toward Student Ideas
Money raised through fundraisers could go toward things students have asked for, such as an ice machine, new ping pong paddles, or other improvements to our school community.

Most importantly, I want to listen to all of you. You are my number one priority. If you have an idea, concern, or something you want to see changed, come talk to me. I will listen, and I will do my best to turn your ideas into action.
